Ever since they discontinued the Dakota, the FCA Group was left without a competing medium size truck on the US market. It finally looks like this is going to change as the group is going to release the 2019 Jeep Wrangler pickup truck in the near future. Just as its name suggests, this is going to be quite similar to the regular SUV. However, there will be quite a few upgrades over it in order to be able to be better suited at being a truck. For starters, it looks like the truck will feature a different chassis and a new suspension system. There might be some changes under the hood as well in order to make it a bit more competitive in an already overcrowded market.
In detail
A short while ago there have been a few renders of the truck’s chassis floating around the internet. It looks like the front end of the truck will be quite similar to that of the Wrangler. However, the truck will feature an upgraded mid and rear section in order to be able to better withstand the forces a truck is exposed at. The longer wheelbase will also allow Jeep to offer a larger cabin than otherwise which is usually a problem with most trucks in this class.
The weight is still unknown but considering how large the 2019 Jeep Wrangler pickup truck is going to be, it is safe to assume it won’t be light. In fact it looks like it may become the heaviest in its class which is not exactly great. Even so, Jeep shouldn’t really have a problem as the Wrangler pickup will offer quite a few interesting features which many of its buyers will love.
2019 Jeep Wrangler Release Date and Price
From the rumors we heard so far it looks like Jeep will release the truck starting with the end of 2018. However, they won’t start the production until 2019 which is quite a lengthy amount of time to wait. This is likely because Jeep is looking to perfect the design, especially since it shares to many parts with the regular Wrangler. Its price is likely going to hover around $30,000 which would make it quite a bit more expensive than the competition.
The design
The front end of the 2019 Jeep Wrangler pickup truck is going to be identical to that of the SUV. It will get the same headlights, grille, fenders and even hood. However, the cabin is where we’ll start to see differences. For starters, they will only offer the pickup with four doors.
However, it looks like Jeep will offer a soft-top and a hard-top convertible which is quite impressive to see, especially for a truck. On top of that, the bed is not going to be the one we have seen so far. Instead it will be a cabin-wide bed with over-fenders which will give the Wrangler pickup the masculine look everyone was looking for.
Inside the cabin
As for starters the four-door version will be the only available one, the pickup will feature five seats with quite a bit of available space inside.
The dashboard will get a less vertical design than what were previously accustomed to while the materials should be on par with the best in its class. Another big change is going to be the instrument cluster area. Here the 2019 Jeep Wrangler pickup truck is more than likely going to boast a head-up display thus becoming the first in its class to implement it.
2019 Jeep Wrangler Specs
The base version of the truck is more than likely going to boast a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This should be able to develop right around 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. Further up the range we may also see a 3.6 liter naturally aspirated V6. With up to 335 horsepower and over 280 lb-ft of torque, this should be a nice alternative for those who like displacement more than turbochargers. A diesel engine, more than likely a 3.0 liter V6 unit, with up to 240 horsepower and over 420 lb-ft of torque, is also going to be an option. All engines will come equipped with an 8 speed automatic while the diesel and the V6 are likely going to be available with a manual transmission as well.
