The 2019 Mini Cooper S Convertible made its debut at the 2018 Detroit auto show. It will be the first to feature new design cues that will, one way or another, find their way to other Mini vehicles. The refreshed 2019 Mini Cooper does not appear all that different at first sight but if you look closer, there are some new touches added to their bubbly personality. Upfront the change includes slightly modified headlight and Mini’s new logo. The rear end received new LED taillights featuring a Union Jack pattern.
The new Mini logo is clear and authentic in style, appearing on the bonnet, tailgate, steering wheel, central instrument display and remote control in all models. It is a re-interpretation of the existing logo and now features a two-dimensional “flat design”. As such, the Mini logo reflects the new brand identity with its focus on the essentials – namely key values such as driving fun, distinctive design, premium quality and emotional appeal.
The newly designed three-spoke steering wheel in the 2019 Mini Cooper S Convertible now features multifunction buttons. On the left-hand control panel it is possible to activate the Speed Limit Device to set a maximum speed, while the audio and communication controls are on the right-hand side.
Price and Release date
Details regarding pricing and when both the Hardtop and Convertible models begin appearing in dealerships have yet to be announced. Prices for the car are expected to be slightly higher than the £14,640 starting price of the outgoing Mini. We are looking forward to see what the new Mini Cooper has reserved for us in matter of pricing.
The options for the colors are Emerald Grey metallic, Starlight Blue metallic and Solaris Orange metallic. The selection of optionally available light alloy wheels has been expanded, too. The 17-inch light alloy wheels in the design styles Roulette Spoke 2-tone and Propeller Spoke 2-tone are now available for all body variants of the new Mini. The likewise 17-inch light alloy wheels in Rail Spoke 2-tone design have also been newly added to the program.
The Mini Yours Customized program now raises hallmark brand individualization to a whole new level. It includes retrofit products whose design can be created by customers themselves, which are then produced precisely according to these individual specifications. The Mini Yours Customized range includes side scuttles, decorative strips for the interior on the passenger side, LED door sill finishers and LED door projectors.
The interior of Mini Cooper S Convertible
On the inside the 2019 Mini Cooper S Convertible has an available piano black interior trim with a Union Jack that lights up in the same color as the ambient lighting. It can be customized extensively from the inside out with features such as paddle light and LED door sill finishers, as with all Mini models. The Mini Yours Customized programs allows the owners to get their cars exactly as they want them and even add retrofit products that they can customize themselves.
On the tech front the 2019 Mini Cooper has a 6.5 inch screen and Bluetooth that now come standard. There is also an 8.8 inch touchscreen with navigation available, along with Apple CarPlay integration that comes optional. Other new tech features include a wireless device charging pad integrated into the center armrest, a second USB port and 4G LTE connectivity. The Mini Connected app has now added a personal mobility assistant feature that allows owners to access calendar entries and contact and plan routes based on current traffic flow.
2019 Mini Cooper S Convertible Specs
As an alternative to the standard 6-speed manual transmission, a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch is optionally available for the models Mini One, Mini Cooper, Mini Cooper S and Mini Cooper D. The new transmission type is characterized by very fast gearshifts, enabling extremely sporty acceleration maneuvers without torque interrupt. It is operated using a newly designed electronic gear selector lever.
A 7-speed Steptronic sports transmission with double clutch is also available for the 2019 Mini Cooper S Convertible. Expect the same powertrain options to be offered with the Convertible retaining a 134-hp 1.5-liter turbo three-cylinder engine paired to a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Cooper S models should return with a 189-hp 2.0-liter turbo-four paired to the same six-speed manual or automatic as the base model.
