BMW was the one that popularized blend of coupe and SUV, as much as that sound silly to pronounce. Rivals paid attention and recently other offers begin to arrive. Then Beemer broadens the game in 2014 with compact X4 which logically translates to X3 with the sloped roof. But seemingly there was a problem. You see, just one year after the second generation of X5 debuted, rakish X6 followed, and there is the same time difference between two current models. X4? It debuted in 2014, but with similar to X3’s fascia and exact interior which was revealed four years ago. As a brand new generation of X3 just broke cover, is, at the middle of its life, X4 going to turn obsolete by its own sibling?
MITIGATING THE ISSUE
The answer to the previous question is no, as Munich obviously decided to perform some heavy work in the premature time frame. Spy shots of 2019 BMW X4 are swarming the Internet and the best fact is that some depict unmasked specimens. And they tell us that much what we saw in new X3 will soon arrive here. When we gaze at it, we could acknowledge that contrary to some domestic rivals, constantly uplifting levels of visual sharpness (primarily Audi), BMW changed the course and chose rounder and milder approach this time.
New X3/X4 headlights are tamer in that sense, while the grille is vertically larger now. Also, the whole fascia appears same as one of the new X3, which wasn’t the case with the current model. Naturally, the tail is unique to it, now with much thinner and sleeker rear lights enhancing sporty aspirations in visual meaning. Photos of the cabin are not available yet, but judging by the amount of work done with the exterior, it might as well borrow brand new deal from 2018 X3 in total. And it probably will.
2019 BMW X4 SPECS
X4 will, as usual, depend on the stuff found under X3’s skin. That points to revised 2.0-liter turbocharged L4 delivering 248 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, which has insignificantly more horsepower (8hp) and same torque figure, and to 3.0-liter turbo L6 boosting 355 horsepower and 369 lb-ft. Later is reserved for the M40i model and it brought an increase of 55 hp and 69 lb-ft in the case of X3. Yet, X4 M40i already had the same horsepower figure, so possibly we should expect just rise of peak torque (by 26 lb-ft) unless it proves different.
We would also mention that since Beemer finally decided to offer full-blooded X3 M model, same will occur for our guy in question. Things not prone to change would be 8-speed automatic and xDrive coming as standard. Still, there would be more novelties shared with new X3. A new platform with less weight and the new wheelbase stretched by 2.2 inches should be taken into account too, along with 75 percent larger head-up display and 10.3-inch infotainment screen compatible with Apple CarPlay and Gesture Control, all presumably coming here.

2019 BMW X4 RELEASE DATE AND PRICE
So, the troublesome time gap between X3 and X4 Munich car maker decided to resolve by introducing a brand new generation of coupe-ish SUV just after four years of its market life. In that sense, expect 2019 BMW X4 to debut next year, reducing period frame between it and its regular twin to the one seen between bigger brothers (X5/X6). Current base price of $47,600 is probably going up, by how much, it left to be seen.
